Corey Barker Races to Fulton Speedway Modified Victory Lane for The First Time

By Dave Medler

FULTON, NY (June 21, 2025) – It’s safe to say, the Barker family name is firmly entrenched in the fabric of Fulton Speedway. The family has fielded cars at the speedway in parts of five decades. Following in the footsteps of his father John, John Barker, Jr. is a seven-time Modified winner at the track and the 1998 track Champion alongside his brother Jim. John is on the speedway grounds nearly every day walking the family dogs. John’s wife Sharon has long contributed to the operation of the speedway, managing the track’s pit credential window and pit pass sales booth. It’s just natural that when you walk into Fulton Speedway, a Barker will be there. Saturday night, Corey Barker, further cemented the family’s place in Fulton Speedway history by capturing his first career Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified Feature.

Barker was quick to show his strength in Saturday’s 35-lap Modified main. From his third place starting spot, Barker slipped past early leaded Jordan Bennett on lap 3 and took off. Setting a blistering pace, Barker would build up a three second lead early on. A strong-running Kyle Devendorf moved to the runner-up spot on lap 10 and tried to keep pace with Barker but it wasn’t until Ronnie Davis III took over the runner-up spot on lap 15 that Barker would feel any challenge.

Davis, from his sixth starting spot, began to steadily cut into Barker’s lead. Lap after lap he trimmed off the distance, finally getting to Barker’s back bumper by lap 27. Running the same bottom lane as Barker to catch him, Davis was forced to change lanes to try and pass him. Working the middle of the track the next couple of circuits only hindered Davis’ progress as he lost five car lengths to Barker’s #31. Barker hit his marks perfectly and maintained his lead over Davis over the final five laps to take the popular win by three car lengths.

Davis would be forced to settle for second following up on a third place finish a week earlier. Alan Fink drove a strong race to finish third after starting eighth ahead of a pair of North Country stars, Lance Willix II and Billy Dunn who crossed the line fourth and fifth.

Rookie Devendorf finished a solid sixth with Amy Holland, Marshall Hurd, Tim Sears Jr. and Chris Mackey rounding out the top 10.

Max Hill, Mackey and Davis captured the three heat races while Wade Chrisman took the consolation round. Another solid field of twenty-eight cars were in attendance.

Savannah’s Emmett Waldron came into Saturday’s Syracuse Haulers/Compass Credit Union program as the Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman point leader and increased his lead by winning the 25-lap feature. Coming out of the twelfth starting spot, Waldron wrestled the lead away from Fulton’s Clayton Brewer III on lap 9 and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Jimmy Moyer captured the Sportsman main two weeks ago and would be Waldron’s only real threat down the stretch. Moyer advanced from his 14th starting spot to the runner-up position on lap 15 after the final caution of the event put him on Waldron’s rear bumper. Moyer would keep pace with Waldron for several laps on the restart but gradually Waldron pulled out to a comfortable lead and cruised to his first Fulton win of 2025. Moyer came home a solid second with Brewer, Dave Moyer and Mike Fowler rounding out the top-5. Thirty-two cars enter the night’s event with Joe Kline, Dan Ferguson, Savannah Laflair and Hunter Hollenbeck capturing the four heat races. Jordan’s Josh Livingston, back racing after several years off, captured the consolation round.

Brennan Fitzgibbons Got his first win of the season and stopped the winning streak of John Pietrowicz in the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stocks.

In the 15-Lap feature Fitzgibbons took the lead from Adam Hunt on lap six and then held off a late charge from Nate Peckham. John Pietrowicz came back from an early race incident to finish third, with Adam Hunt and Ron Hawker completing the top five.

The 20th Anniversary A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprint Car Tour made their first visit to the speedway with 34 cars signed into the pits.

The 25-Lap feature would see veteran Bobby Parrow take advantage of a front row starting spot and bolted out to the lead putting distance between himself and the rest of the field.

While Parrow was leading local fans, Zach Sobotka was working his way forward from his 11th starting spot.

Just before the halfway mark Sobotka took advantage of a yellow moving to second on the restart and then set his sight on Parrow.

With three laps to go Zach Sobotka took advantage of a late yellow as he was able to power by Bobby Parrow on the outside and grab the win. Spencer Burley, Johnny Smith, and Scott Landers finished third through fifth.

With his win Sobotka became the first back-to-back winner since Jordan Hutton did it in 2023.

The 15-Lap E & V Energy Novice Sportsman feature saw Belle Hogan leading the opening five laps when Andrew Eaton would drive past Hogan and lead the rest of the way. Jacob Gurecki, Chris Darling, Belle Hogan, and Sydney Wethbee completed the top-five.

This Wednesday, June 25 Jammer’s Sports Bar & Restaurant presents the rescheduled Highbank Holdup DIRTcar 358-Modified Series 60 rescheduled from April 26. Also on the card will be a $750-to-win Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout Qualifier.
