Zimmer Scores First Career IMCA Modified Feature Win

Monroeton, Pa: The Close Racing Supply NY/Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance finally got to kicked off their Fifth season Friday night at The Hill Speedway in Monroeton, Pa. After the original opening race for the season at Clinton County got canceled back in April, the teams that race the series got some extra time to get equipment ready for the season. Even this race was delayed a week due to mother nature.

When the Lacey Maryott with Century 21 Signature Properties Heat one race took the track, it was time to get to work. The

Alpha Chassis sponsored 89 and defending 2024 series champion Rodney Morgan and the Lamphere Truck Parts 711 of JW Lamphere brought the field to the season starting green flag. Morgan took the lead and never looked back. Keith Lamphere’s 98k founds his way to finish second, followed by Dalton Maynard in third. Heat two showed the crowd some intense battles throughout the field. The 68 machine of Rich McNeal and 7* of Shawn Bruce would bring the field to the green. Bruce found the lead after a couple quick cautions. The 7* appeared to be the car to show the field to the finish until the 87 of Earl Zimmer made his way up to challenge Bruce from his fourth starting position. Zimmer was able to muscle by Bruce to claim his first career series win. Brad Sites gave chase in his 115 machine to finish third at the checkers.

After a brief intermission and the Pure Stocks and 600 Modifieds, it was time for the first feature event of the season and a chance to see who will make it to the Close Racing Supply victory lane. Just like in the second heat race, fans watched Earl Zimmer and Shawn Bruce battle each other for the opening two laps through a couple early caution flags. Once things settled down, the guys went to work. Bruce was over taken by defending series champion Rodney Morgan moving him to third. Morgan battled hard trying to catch Zimmer’s 87 machine. When the field hit five laps to go, there seemed to be hope for Morgan as Zimmer was working lap traffic. The rookie, yet seasoned driver prevailed and took home the checkers and very first career IMCA Modified win. Second went to Rodney

Morgan, followed by Logan Terry in third. Brad Sites came home fourth after an early caution on lap 5 put him to the rear, with the 7* of Shawn Bruce rounding out the top 5.

The Close Racing Supply NY/Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance will return to action Saturday, July 5th, 2025, when they travel to New York’s Thunder Mountain Speedway in Isle, NY for their first visit of two this season. It will be for the 3rd Annual Billy Ward Memorial where teams will battle for $1004 to win and $104 to start. This race will be the first Fast Shafts All Star Qualifier of the season.
