Grant Sweeps Night 5 of Indiana Midget Week and Scores Career USAC National Win Number 99

By James Zimmerman

Haubstadt, IN (June 13, 2026) – Night number five of Indiana Midget Week took place at Tri-State Speedway and proved to be the perfect location for a dominant clean sweep for Justin Grant and the CB Industries crew. Grant set the tone early by going quickest in hot laps, backed it up by topping qualifying, then charged from sixth to first in his heat race. He capped the night with one more sixth‑to‑first performance. This time in the feature, where he took the lead within the opening six laps.

On the opening lap of the feature, Cannon McIntosh brought the field to green, but it was Jacob Boxell from the outside of row one who surged ahead to lead the first five laps. His early pace didn’t go unchallenged for long, though. Logan Seavey and Justin Grant were closing in quickly.

Just two laps into the race, the first caution flew when Alex Midkiff came to a stop in turns three and four. On the restart, Seavey immediately went to work, sliding past McIntosh in turns one and two. One lap later, McIntosh slipped another position as Grant powered underneath him off the exit of turn two.

Grant’s charge didn’t stop there. On the next lap, he showcased the strength of his car, especially through one and two by pulling off a perfect two‑for‑one move on both Seavey and Boxell to take command of the race.

Seavey answered quickly, to stay in the hunt by working the bottom to move Boxell back to third. Once Grant and Seavey settled into the top two spots, they began to distance themselves from the rest of the field.

When Grant crossed the scoring loop with ten laps in and twenty laps remaining, he held just over a one‑second advantage on Seavey as the leaders began to approach the tail of the field. Behind them, Indiana Midget Week points leader Karter Sarff was trying to claw forward from sixth, battling Drake Edwards and McIntosh for positions fourth and fifth.

With eighteen laps to go, Grant reached the back of the field. As he had all night, he sliced kept his speed up and didn’t slow down. By the time the field hit the ten laps to go, Grant had stretched his lead to more than four seconds over Seavey.

A caution that Grant certainly did not want to see came out with seven laps remaining. Colton Robinson came to a stop exiting turn four. He was able to be pushed off and rejoin the field. The yellow erased Grant’s full straightaway advantage on second place Seavey.

On the first attempt at a restart, another caution flew, this time for Robinson restarting in the wrong position. On the second attempt, Grant changed up his approach, taking the field high into turn three before firing off toward the bottom of turn four.

Seavey kept pace during the green‑flag run, but Grant’s drive off the corners remained the unmatched speed.

With six laps to go, the battles behind the front two looked to be controlled chaos. McIntosh worked past Boxell for third, only for Boxell to reclaim the position a lap later by rolling the bottom and middle while McIntosh committed to the top of three and four. With three laps remaining, positions three through seven were separated by less than a second.

Then, with two laps to go, the yellow returned as Adam Taylor came to a stop on the exit of turn two. Taylor was pushed off, and the field and fans prepared for a two‑lap shootout.

On the restart, Seavey stayed with Grant, but never close enough to mount a challenge. Grant’s corner exit speed carried him through the final laps and across the line to secure the win and his 99th career USAC National win.

After the feature, I asked Justin Grant what it is about Tri‑State Speedway that allows him to consistently find speed and stay in contention. Grant didn’t hesitate on giving a lot of credit and guidance he received from his father‑in‑law, Bubby (Jones).

“He was really good here,” Grant said. “He gave me a lot of good advice on how to set the car up and how I needed to drive this place.”

Grant added that everything changed for him after his first Tri‑State win. “Once I won here in 2021, it changed my whole Haubstadt world,” he said. “I’ve gotten to where I really love it.”

I also asked Grant able accomplishing his 99th career USAC National win. Grant reflected on the milestone.“I can’t believe I have one,” he said with a smile. “They’re all really, really special, and these races are hard to win. At least for me, there are no gimmes and you have to be on your game.”

“To be able to put those pieces together ninety‑nine times so far is really special.”

Grant looks for number 100 tonight, at Kokomo Speedway.
